The Practice

Welcome to Beyond Ideas Counseling, LLC, a small private practice office in downtown Manhattan, KS. Everyone deserves a dedicated safe space to explore their individual wellness plans. We all have different paths to health and well-being and I am here to help guide you down the path to peace and wholeness. You never have to travel to healing alone.

I believe we are all experts of our own lives and we deserve to be understood as we are. Sometimes the most powerful change happens because someone truly sees us. I strive to be a compassionate witness for all my clients. In my practice, I emphasize resiliency, self-efficacy, and justice for each client I work with. My goal is meet you where you're at and then we work together to move toward a goal you design.

I am passionate about the work I do with clients and consider each client my teacher. I feel honored to hear their stories.

I am committed to working with populations that by virtue of their gender identity, race, social status, sexual orientations, and diverse life experiences have been subjected to profound lessened life chances that carry with them substantial trauma. It is clients with multiple and complex traumas that I am most invested in helping find balance and self-efficacy. These include: transgender and genderqueer clients; lesbian, gay, bisexual, and queer clients; Native clients and clients of color; those with complex trauma (including military/war, sexual trauma including childhood sexual abuse); Native clients subjected to ongoing state, colonial, and gender violence; those struggling with dissociative disorders;  clients in need of healthy sexuality support (including fetishes, kinks, BDSM, leather community, sex therapy); those with anxiety disorders; clients with chronic illnesses that need help finding acceptance; and those with phase of life problems.

My professional training includes EMDR and as well as training in couples counseling, substance abuse, and motivational interviewing. I also have advanced sexuality training and I can provide sex therapy and sex education to clients. I have a special focus on helping to heal the intersections of sexuality, identity, and trauma where so many of us have been hurt.

I maintain memberships in several professional organizations and abide by the ethics and mission statements of each group. Those organizations include The American Counseling Association (ACA), The World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH), The Sexual Health Alliance (SHA), The New Mexico Counseling Association (NMCA), The Kansas Counseling Association (KCA), and several special topic subgroups, and The National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC).

Counseling with compassion.
